A Season for Giving

Over the years I have become aware of how deep the technology gap is for low income families. Just think what your laptop brings to you in the way of email information, social networking, research for your work and your entertainment. People just don’t realize how valuable a PC or laptop can be for someone who doesn’t have one, but businesses stack old computer equipment in a closet as it gathers dust and becomes useless as time passes. Over the last couple of years I have solicited businesses to donate their old but still useful computers and now over 200 computers have been distributed to group homes, helped develop a Salvation Army computer lab, and even provided an orphanage in Peru with technology they never thought would be possible.

So here is my plea once again during the Giving Season – and a time that is at the end of the fiscal year for many businesses. If it is that time when you know you are about to sideline your current PC or laptop for a newer model, remember there is still a lot of life in it and learning that can done by someone who currently does not have a computer, an email address, a Facebook page, or a blog. Please give us computers with life and not  broken or damaged equipment that really should hit the trash bin. We plan on some of this year’s donations going to orphans in South Africa.

This Season – give and help others.
